Al Roker may have returned to the Today Show at the beginning of the year after a week-long absence due to a hospital stay, but in order to stay, he must maintain top-notch health.
The 68-year-old weatherman had missed more than a month of work at the end of last year due to blood clots in his lungs and subsequent surgery.
He has since provided them with a new update on a different health concern while continuing to be open and honest about his health.
Al informed his followers on Tuesday that he would require additional time off from the Today Show, where he has worked for more than 20 years, in April due to yet another procedure.
The well-liked meteorologist revealed in a post on Instagram that he will soon have knee replacement surgery, which will allow him to resume his regular walking regimen.
Al was a devoted walker before his health began to deteriorate in late 2022, and followers could anticipate seeing a video update from him on his Instagram each day as he chatted with the camera while he completed his daily 10,000 steps.
He posted on social media that as the date of his knee surgery drew nearer, he was getting back to his old routines and had finally exceeded his customary 10k steps.
“Yesterday was the #bestdayyet when it comes to my steps on this #bumknee before my #kneereplacementsurgery in late April,” he captioned a photo of his Apple watch, adding, “Thanks to my #starttoday #family for the support!”
Take it gently, honey, his 28-year-old wife Deborah Roberts, who has provided her husband with the best care possible throughout and after his health issues, admonished him.
Fans also praised Al for his dedication in the comments section of the article, writing: “You are an inspiration!! Way to go, Al!!” and “Al you are an inspiration to many of us!! You bring us all joy on a daily basis!” Another fan added: “You are an inspiration Al Roker!”
