Sue called her husband Dan at work one afternoon, just as he was rushing between meetings.
“Dan,” she said calmly, “do you have time for a quick chat?”
Dan lowered his voice and glanced toward the conference room.
“Sorry, darling, this really isn’t a good time,” he replied. “I’m just about to go into a very important board meeting.”
Sue hesitated for a moment.
“But it won’t take long,” she said. “I just need to tell you some good news and some bad news.”
Dan sighed, already checking his watch.
“I honestly don’t have time for both right now,” he said. “The directors are waiting for me. Just tell me the good news quickly, and we’ll talk about the bad news later.”
“Are you sure?” Sue asked.
“Yes, yes,” Dan said impatiently. “Just the good news.”
Sue took a deep breath and said,
“All right then. The good news is that the airbag on your brand-new Mercedes works very well.”
