Norman was an old retired sailor who spent most of his days telling stories about the sea, the ports he had visited, and the trouble he had somehow survived.
One evening, feeling nostalgic, he opened his closet, took out his old uniform, brushed it off, and put it on again.
“Just for old time’s sake,” he told himself.
He headed down to the docks, walking slowly but proudly, enjoying the smell of salt air and the sound of the waves.
After a while, Norman met a lady of the night, and the two of them went up to her room.
Norman did his best to relive his younger days, but after a few minutes, he started feeling unsure of himself.
Trying to sound confident, he asked, “So… how am I doing?”
The woman looked at him, smiled politely, and said, “Well, Norman, you old sailor… I’d say you’re doing about three knots.”
Norman frowned. “Three knots? What’s that supposed to mean?”
She leaned back and replied:
“You’re knot hard, you’re knot in, and you’re knot getting your money back.”
