After nearly a year as a widower, Old Harold became the subject of widespread town chatter when whispers began circulating about his intention to marry a considerably younger woman from abroad.
A local banker, driven by a mix of curiosity and concern, approached Harold on the street. “Harold,” he began, “please tell me these aren’t just idle rumors… are you truly planning to remarry?”
Harold’s face lit up with a wide grin. “Indeed! She’ll be celebrating her twenty-second birthday next month.”
The banker, attempting to be discreet, mused that an 82-year-old might struggle to match the energy of someone so young. He cautiously proposed, “Perhaps you should consider employing some help around the farm to lessen your responsibilities… ensuring you don’t exert yourself too much.”
Harold acknowledged this with a nod. “That’s a sound idea. I’ll arrange for someone to start this week.”
Four months later, the banker encountered Harold in the town center and motioned for him to approach. “So, how is married life treating you?” he inquired.
Harold’s happiness was palpable. “She’s absolutely wonderful — and we’re expecting a baby!”
The banker swelled with pride, convinced his sage advice had been instrumental. “And the farmhand you employed — how is he getting along?”
Harold responded with a shrug, saying, “Oh, he’s doing quite well… he’s also expecting a baby.”
