The doctor handed the old man a small plastic jar and said, “Take this home, collect a sample, and bring it back tomorrow morning.”
The old man nodded seriously, put the jar in his pocket, and left.
The next day, he returned to the clinic looking exhausted. He placed the jar on the doctor’s desk.
It was completely empty.
The doctor frowned. “What happened? I thought I asked you to bring me a sample.”
The old man sighed. “Doc, I tried everything.”
The doctor leaned forward.
“I tried with my right hand,” the old man said, “but nothing happened. Then I tried with my left hand. Still nothing.”
The doctor blinked.
“So I asked my wife to help. She tried with both hands. Then she tried with her mouth—teeth in, teeth out—but still nothing.”
The doctor’s eyes widened.
The old man continued, “Then we called our neighbor, Arleen. She tried both hands too. Then an armpit. Then she even tried squeezing it between her knees.”
The doctor nearly fell out of his chair.
“Wait a minute,” he shouted. “You asked your neighbor to help?!”
The old man nodded and said:
“Yep. And none of us could get the jar open.”
