A commercial airline pilot finally married his longtime girlfriend, a smart, confident air traffic controller who was famous for staying calm under pressure.
After the wedding, they left for their honeymoon, and for the first couple of days everything was perfect. But one morning, while they were having coffee, the pilot decided it was time to establish a few “rules” for married life.
“Look, babe,” he said seriously, leaning back in his chair. “My job is demanding. I’ll land when I land, and I don’t want questions. I’ll sleep when I can, go out with the crew when I want, and if a flight delay keeps me overnight, you’ll just have to deal with it.”
She looked at him quietly and took another sip of coffee.
He continued, “And when I’m finally home, I expect peace and no drama. Understood?”
His new wife smiled sweetly and nodded.
“Totally fair,” she said.
The pilot looked pleased with himself.
Then she leaned closer, still smiling calmly.
“Just so you know,” she said, “takeoffs around here happen nightly at 9 PM. No delays. No reroutes.”
She paused, looked him straight in the eye, and added,
“And tower control always clears the runway.”
