One evening, a man was relaxing on the couch with his wife, watching television and enjoying a bowl of peanuts.
To entertain himself, he started tossing peanuts into the air and catching them in his mouth. His wife rolled her eyes, but he was quite proud of his skill.
Just as he threw another peanut up, the front door suddenly opened.
He turned his head to see who had come in, and instead of landing in his mouth, the peanut dropped straight into his ear.
He froze.
“My ear!” he shouted. “There’s a peanut stuck in my ear!”
At that moment, his daughter walked in with her date.
After hearing what happened, the young man said confidently, “Don’t worry, sir. I can get it out.”
The father looked doubtful, but sat still.
The young man pushed two fingers into the man’s nose and said, “Now blow as hard as you can.”
The father blew, and with a pop, the peanut flew out of his ear.
Everyone was amazed.
The daughter took her date into the kitchen to get something to eat, and the mother turned to her husband.
“Isn’t he clever?” she said. “I wonder what he plans to be.”
The father rubbed his nose and replied,
“From the smell of his fingers, I’d say our son-in-law.”
