One winter morning in Detroit, a husband and wife were having breakfast while listening to the radio. The announcer said, “We’re expecting 8 to 10 inches of snow today. Please park your car on the even-numbered side of the street so the snowplows can get through.”
Being diligent, the wife bundled up and went outside to move her car.
The following week, as they sat down for breakfast again, the radio announcer warned, “We’re expecting 10 to 12 inches of snow today. Please park your car on the odd-numbered side of the street so the snowplows can get through.”
Once again, the wife dutifully went out and moved her car.
A week later, they were having breakfast when the announcer began, “We’re expecting 12 to 14 inches of snow today. Please park…”—and suddenly, the power went out.
Panicked, the wife turned to her husband and said, “Oh no! I don’t know what to do! Which side of the street should I park on so the snowplows can get through?”
With all the patience and love that comes from years of marriage, the husband gently patted her hand and said, “Honey, why don’t you just leave it in the garage this time?”
